Select Soils, a division of Kaolin Mushroom Farms Inc., has, for over 50 years now maintained the belief that keeping our earth clean is a major factor of the planets future. As such, we have assumed the unique responsibility of continuing the recycling processes indigenous to mushroom farming operations through our “full cycle” environmental approach. As a starting point, this includes importing agricultural waste products from various other farming industries/operations for use as source agents for our own mushroom farming requirements.
After the mushroom crop has been grown, Select Soils takes the spent mushroom compost and recycles it to create commercially viable, earth friendly products, including our new Mushroom Compost Bales (5′L x 4′W x 2.5′H). Our “state of the art” compost-baling machine, a machine that has undergone 3 years of customization and beta testing, is at the core of this new product.
Our Mushroom Compost Bales have created a vast improvement in the diversity of transportation methods available to transport this product. Historically, because of the bulk / loose nature the recycled/spent mushroom compost, the geographic sales region of spent mushroom compost has been limited to an area within 50 miles of Kennett Square, Pa. Now, with the advent of our baling concept, this product can be made available to any venue within the United States or Canada and transported via flatbed trailer, van trailer, rail car and other more conventional and available means of transportation. Kaolin Mushroom Farms Inc., the parent of Select Soils, is one of the United States largest agricultural waste recycling operations.
